Fibre Prep and Drop Spindling with Sukrita
Description: Learn how to use hand carders to make fibre blends. Students will be using raw wool, washed and scoured, as well as various tops and other fibres to make unique rolags. These rolags will then be spun on a top whorl drop spindle. No prior experience with spinning is necessary as all the basics will be covered.
You will learn: how to blend fibre using hand carders; how to spin your own leader to start spinning; pre-drafting fibre; spin using ‘park and draft’; manage twist to create a balanced single. At the end of the workshop, you will have created yarn from your unique fibre blend. Drop spinning is a portable and meditative practice, used since Neolithic times to make all kinds of thread. Yarn created in this way can be used in knitting, crochet or weaving.
Skill Level: Beginner
Materials: All materials provided. Students will have the opportunity to purchase the hand carders and drop spindle after the workshop.
